The AAMU’s museum collection has been included in the collection of the National Museum for World Cultures (Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam, Afrika Museum in Berg en Dal and the Museum Volkenkunde in Leiden). The unique collection consists of over 800 works including paintings on canvas, bark paintings, wooden sculptures, photography, film and multimedia work from the various regions and art centres.
About the AAMU
The AAMU was thé place in Europe to see contemporary Aboriginal art from Australia. Unique to the museum world, it was an inspiring location in the heart of Utrecht, the Netherlands, where visitors were introduced to Aboriginal art in all its diversity.
In alternating exhibitions the museum presented work by world-renowned artists and up and coming talent. The AAMU organised two exhibition each year drawing upon an extensive network of artists, curators, museums, galleries and private collectors in the Netherlands, Europe and Australia. The museum was recognised by the Australian government as an important cultural heritage platform in Europe.
