Tour guides
AAMU is supported by 16 very active and motivated tour guides who work voluntarily at the museum. With great enhusiasm and knowledge of Aboriginal art and culture they will lead you through the museum and temporary exhibitions.
AAMU has different tour guides for different groups such as adult museum visitors or for educational programmes (primary and secondary education, University or polytechnic students) and special workshops or children's parties. Tours can be held in English on request.

Volunteers in the museum
The 30 motivated volunteers of the AAMU are extremely important to the organisation. Without them, the museum simply could not open its doors. Consequently, we are always looking for volunteers to strengthen our team. Together with the manager of operations and staff, the volunteers are responsible for the day-to-day museum operations, admissions, the museum shop and the museum café. Volunteers must be able to speak Dutch.
Apart from a small contribution towards expenses and/or travelling expenses we can offer you a pleasant working environment, with congenial colleagues where you can get acquainted with Aboriginal art. As a volunteer you will have free access to the museum. In addition, you will receive two free admission tickets a year for family or friends. You will be able to attend openings and lectures and assist in special activities like the Museumnight, the annual Museumweekend and the opening of the new cultural season mid September during Utrecht’s Uitfeest.
The tasks that volunteers are fulfilling are a.o.:
- man and operate the shop's cash register;
- keep entryway, shop and cash register tidy;
- stock shop's shelves and price articles;
- assist and inform museum visitors;
- serve visitors refreshments and operate the cash register at the cafe.
A volunteer can work up to 6 shifts a week. The work schedules are:
Tuesday to Friday:
Morning shift: 9.45 a.m – 1.30 p.m.
Afternoon shift: 1.30 p.m. - 5.15 p.m
Saturday/Sunday:
10.45 a.m. – 2.00 p.m.
2.00 p.m – 5.15 p.m.
