Museum building
The museum is located in an attractive building in the heart of Utrecht, on its grand canal the Oudegracht. There are three exhibition halls spread over three floors. On the ground floor in addition to the exhibition area, you will find the museum shop, the museum gallery, an auditorium that also serves as a cinema and the café with a conservatory and terrace that gives you direct views of the famous Dom tower.
The building is wheelchair-friendly.
Admission
Your admission ticket is not only your entrance ticket to the current exhibition. It also gives you admission to all museum facilities.
The museum shop and gallery can also be visited without an admission ticket.
Auditorium
In the auditorium you can watch an introduction film on Aboriginal art and culture. The film will have English subtitles shortly. Handouts with informative texts on the current exhibition are available from the desk at the entrance and can also be found throughout the exhibition.
The auditorium of AAMU regularly hosts screenings of films, can seat approximately 70 visitors and can also be booked for workshops, courses, meetings and other gatherings.
Café
The café sells various hot drinks and soft drinks, as well as milk and fresh orange juice. There are cakes and homemade Australian chocolates to go with your cup of tea or coffee; chocolates can be purchased either individually or by the box. Snacks are also available, such as our unsurpassed toasted sandwiches made with white or brown bread. The café has a reading table and a beautiful conservatory. In the summer, you can enjoy the sun out on the terrace. The Aboriginal artist Helicopter designed the terrace tiles.
Shop
The museum shop features the catalogues of the exhibitions and interesting and beautiful art books and books of reference on Aboriginal art and culture. In addition, the shop sells various products associated with Aboriginal Australia and art and culture including posters, postcards, ceramics as well as jewellery, t-shirts, didgeridoos, boomerangs, Australian sweets (e.g. chocolates) and unique gifts.
Museum gallery
The museum gallery offers the inspired museum visitor the unique opportunity to purchase authenticated Aboriginal art expressed not only on canvas and paper, but also on tree-bark and in sculpture. The works of art are bought from well-known Australian art cooperatives or directly from the artists themselves.

The paintings in the gallery originate from various regions of Australia, each of which has its own individual style of painting. There are usually works of art on sale from Arnhem Land, the Desert, the Kimberley and Melville Island.
The museum gallery can offer you a.o. the following services:
- Brokering and/or advice when purchasing works of art
- Advice on compiling and adding to an art collection
- Arranging art lectures
- Brokering and advice on art projects and promotional gifts
- Presenting Aboriginal art on locations outside the museum, e.g. in office buildings
