30 May: debate The View on Self / Blak on Blak presentation
In collaboration with the Australian art magazine Artlink the AAMU presents a new debate in the Framer Framed Series. Artlink recently published a special edition entitled Blak on Blak in which Aboriginal writers comment on Aboriginal art. The presentation of this special edition is the reason to make a comparison with the Suriname-Dutch art project Wakaman in which artists explore their own cultural background and ethnic identity.
After the debate the European presentation of Blak on Blak will take place.
Speaking during this debate will be:
Dr Margo Neale, Senior Research Fellow of the National Museum of Australia and Principal Advisor to the Director on Indigenous matters. She is also an Adjunct Professor at the Australian National University Centre for Indigenous History.
Gordon Hookey is an artist and a PhD student at the Queensland College of Art in Queensland, Australia
Daniel Browning is the guest editor of Blak on Blak
Gillion Grantsaan is an artist and co-founder of the Wakaman project
Marcel Pinas is an artist. He was born and still lives in Suriname, South America.
Chair to the forum is Nancy Jouwe of Kosmopolis Utrecht.
The debate starts at: 2 p.m.
